Finally the wedding I was in Nigeria for.

It was the first time I would be meeting the couple 😂 and first adult experience as an Asoebi Belle.

So I became acquainted with the groom a few years ago when I had just joined instagram. He just automatically assumed big brother position in no time. He is based in Finland and his WIfe Nigeria, yup long ass distance relationship for yearrrrrrrssss. He always spoke about her and man he Loves that woman guys, like Love Love Loves her. It was always beautiful to witness.

As I mentioned in the first post of this series, Asoebi is to be used for the wedding which is sold to you by the couple. Shortly after I was informed of dates for the wedding, the bride added me to WhatsApp group for her Asoebi belles. Prices are discussed and people just pay to have their Asoebi delivered. I would love to commend the bride on the choice of fabric and packaging, 🤩 it was a 10/10 for me. Absolutely beautiful.

Now I needed to find a style I like, a makeup artist and a gele artist. Gele is a traditional head wear for women. It is worm b a lot of Nigerian cultures but might be called a different name. This can be tied in so May various ways and design.

One of my sister’s is a gele artist, yes this is a career which explains how huge the party and glamour industry in Nigeria is. So obviously she was going to do my gele for the wedding. For the style I wanted for the asoebi, my youngest sister asked that I use her friend Ife @belza.atelier. I got are contact and now she needed to do my measurements via video call 😂. Luckily I had my friend with me so she instructed us on what to do over the phone. I needed this to be perfect 🥺.

The make up artist was one thing couldn’t shop for in my own so I trusted my sister who worked with a couple of them to help me. Plus I had a budget I was working with. These people aren’t cheap🤣. Remember the first wedding I attended, if you haven’t read the first post please go and read it o😩. Anyways two days after that I went to fit my asoebi. Guys! This was a perfect fit not a single adjustment. Unbelievable!!!! I was so happy you can see with the little dance moves without music 😂.

Day of the wedding finally came🥳🥳🥳🥳, and i was so excited. I booked a room at the hotel close to the venue so i can have my gele and makeup done there then go to the wedding. I got there really early but the hotel decided to mess things up by not having the room ready at check in , seemed like they over booked. Oh lord! I was so angry and wore my Karen hat immediately “I would like to speak to a manager”.

They finally gave me a room and I had to start with the make up😩 the gele. The makeup artist, was so so lovely and patient considering she had to wait a while for the room to be ready. She began the work, I must say this is no piece of cake and I really respect women that attend social events all the time and have to wear professionally done make up. Followed by Gele. I loved everything about the look. I wish I never had to wash my face 😂.

Now I have to rush to the venue after I have missed a huge part of the ceremony 😭😭 But I made it. Met a whole lot of lovely ladies and gents. It was so exciting and fun. The decor was great so was the food but I unfortunately didn’t take much pictures of those. I will leave links to of business pages at the end of the blog.

The traditional Yoruba wedding which is called Igbeyawo, this is the final step of the wedding ceremony which something comes before or after a church wedding for Christians or Nikkah for the Muslims. For the wedding I attended it was a Nikkah because the wife is Muslim. This couple I celebrated with had their Nikkah in the early hours of that day, same day as the traditional wedding.

Then the Igbeyawo started. Groom arrives first together with his friends followed by the bride. There is a part I love the most about the traditional wedding which is the part where the groom physically carries the bride 😍, it surely has it’s cultural significance to represent strength and that the husband will protect and care for the bride going forward. Incase I have it wrong, I will ask my Mom and come back to edit this 😂.

Soon after this ceremony the couple went on to change to their second outfit, third if you count Nikkah in the morning 😂. Yes we are lovers of everything glamour! This was the beginning of the fun fun for us the young Guests.

For the last part of the day which was the after party, I went back to the hotel to remove my gele and heels. Had on a lovely wig and slippers for hot girl vibes and freedom to dance well 🤸🏾‍♀️. The couple as well went to change to something more comfortable but still glamorous.

This sealed the deal for me. My trip home was finally complete.

I am super honored for the invite and wish the couple a very Blissful, Happy, Fun and enjoyable Union.

I sure hope you all enjoyed this series as well. I would have posted earlier but I kept losing the drafts which was demoralising.
